One in 10 people reading this knows someone with Alzheimer’s. For one in three, the person with Alzheimer’s is a family member.
Today, The Quilt Show premiers program #712. It features the Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative, our grassroots effort to raise awareness and fund research. If Alzheimer’s has touched your life, please watch this important show and join our fight against Alzheimer’s.
The Quilt Show, hosted by Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims, is a fully produced “television” show filmed in front of a studio audience. It is available on the Internet, 24/7. Click here, to be taken directly to the Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative show.
Please share this news with your friends. Thousands of quilters, perhaps someone you know, have written the name(s) of a family member or friend who has/had Alzheimer’s on a purple patch of fabric. Those patches have been stitched into 182 “Name Quilts” honoring more than 10,000 individuals. The”Name Quilts,” along with 53 small format art quilts, make up the AAQI’s new traveling exhibit called “Alzheimer’s Illustrated: From Heartbreak to Hope.” A portion of “Alzheimer’s Illustrated” exhibit is shown on program #712 for the first time anywhere. The AAQI is looking for quilting groups to bring this poignant exhibit to their communities. Learn more here.
Here’s a trailer for program #712 of The Quilt Show with the AAQI’s founder and executive director, Ami Simms.

Ami, I just watched the “Quilt Show” from the link in your e-mailed newsletter, what a great show, what a GREAT presentation you did, you opened my eyes to Alzheimer’s when you visited our Parker County Quilters Guild in Weatherford, TX, but when you showed the 3 different leaf stencils your mom had made, you opened my heart ! I’ve sent 2 priority quilts already, but will strive for more…I loved the lesson on the dog, you are so clever & FUNNY !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I enjoy reading your newsletters, you have the greatest sense of humor! May God Bless you real good & all the wonderful people (and Animals) that volunteer in AAQI. Again, THANKS for your hard work !!!! DonnaKay
I forgot to mention, the only thing that would have made the show even better would have been a guest appearance by Madison T. Dog.
A four-legged one?
Ami, Great job!! I don’t know how you got through it all without a Kleenex!! I had my tissues out. I love that the entire audience brought you quilts, as did Ricky and Alex. It is an amazing thing you are doing. Bless you. One of my quilts is in the new traveling exhibit. I can’t wait to see the whole thing at a quilt show. And tell Alex and Ricky thank you for devoting the entire show to our cause.
Jeanie
If it makes you feel any better, I did have tissue in my pocket! It was pretty damp by the end.
Awesome job, Ami! How wonderful that the entire audience brought you quilts
